Lori OkamiLIFE FITNET is a product of my varied life experiences and my strong desire to contribute to improving the health and wellness of Hawaii’s youth, adults and seniors. Year over year, I heard co-workers complain about their declining physical condition, blame child-bearing and aging and accepting their demise as part of the natural course of life. I have never been one to just go along with status quo. Heck, that’s why I began power-lifting when everyone, including my parents and physician, told me that girls shouldn’t lift weights. As I approach “middle-age” and more and more friends face increasing physical limitations, I believe enough is enough. Something needs to be done.

Let me share with you a little more about myself and you will see how Life FitNet became the culmination of 30+ years of experience:

  • Health Advocate. Author of the Honolulu Star-Advertiser health and fitness blog titled Be Strong Live Long, committed to helping others regain their health, youthful shape and conditioning.
  • Trainer. ACE-certified personal trainer, with Lifestyle and Weight Management, as well as CPR, First Aid and AED certification. Fully insured.
  • Community wellness promoter. Over the past 30 years, conducted workshops and demonstrations throughout our island chain at schools, businesses and events promoting health and fitness. Appeared on local and national television (Hawaiian Moving Company and ESPN), as well as in local and national publications including USA Today, Flex, Muscle & Fitness, the Honolulu Advertiser, Star Advertiser and Midweek.
  • Manager. Spent nearly 20 years in corporate management, including serving as Vice President running a more than $20 million local distribution sales operation and Director of CRM. I worked long hours at a desk, traveled for business and spent much of my days attending meetings and functions. Not surprisingly, I “let myself go,” gaining weight and losing muscle-tone so much so that many doubted my fitness accomplishments of the past. Ouch, that hurt.
  • Change Agent. Lead corporate cultural change and corporate values proclamation, having worked closely with the renowned Dr. George Kanahele.
  • Educator. Taught health, physical education and recreation classes at Honolulu Community College and business courses at Chaminade University.
  • Competitive Athlete. Past National Bodybuilding Champion, World, National, and State powerlifting record holder, and Armwrestling champion.
  • Mother. Single parent having raised three children, ranging from grade school through college.

2009, HawaiiMy eldest child was diagnosed with Type I diabetes at age 7 and I have immediate family members who have survived stroke, cancer and a lifetime of high blood pressure and high cholesterol. So I understand the effects of diet, exercise and lifestyle on these health conditions and am even more so dedicated to control and prevention. I am passionate about improving the quality of life in Hawaii and partnered with other local businesses who have also contributed to making Hawaii one of the healthiest states in the nation.
